Selection Procedure for New Franchisees
Franchisee selection is the most important endeavor that Keys Please® The Driving Alternative Inc. undertakes.  It determines the general atmosphere in which franchise members operate and largely contributes to the success or failure of the system as a whole.

Selecting the right franchisee is critical to our success as well as to the success of each franchisee within the system.

When looking for a new franchisee we seek self-motivated individuals who will:

  • Share in the vision of the franchise.
  • Continually work with us to improve service.
  • Accept and achieve the standards that are set within the franchise.
  • Draw knowledge and skills from within the franchise.
  • Listen to the ideas of others.
  • Work with us to identify opportunities for growth.

The most fundamental quality that we look for is the ability and desire to work within our franchise system.  An understanding of their financial position is also critical and a realistic outlook is essential.

When responding to inquiries about becoming a franchisee, we draw heavily on the following:

  • A strong sense that a good working relationship with the applicant is possible.
  • The applicant is applying to enter into a business relationship for a minimum of five years.
  • The applicant will represent us in their community with the same high standards of service.
  • Enthusiasm and a 'will do' attitude.
  • Collecting financial information to determine if the applicant qualifies.

We need to know that an applicant has seriously considered that a franchise is the appropriate form of business for them.  It is critical that our franchise is suitable for the applicants qualifications.

To determine whether the applicant and our franchise is a good match is critical to our success.

Step One:  The Initial Inquiry

The first step is to thoroughly read the information on our website.  If you are interested in pursuing a Keys Please® The Driving Alternative® franchise, please complete and submit the initial inquiry form located at the end of this "Selection Information".  If the information meets our preliminary qualification criteria, we will contact you to discuss your application.  During this phase we will:
  • Explain the total investment and minimum cash requirements.
  • Determine your preferred location(s).
  • Discuss your time frame to opening.
  • Provide you with a franchise application form.

Step Two: Complete the Franchise Application Form

Your next step is to complete the franchise application form and return it to our office for review.  During this period you are requested to refrain from discussing the business directly with any of our employees, our franchisees or their employees.  The reason for this is confidentiality in that The Driving Alternative Inc. will only allow qualified applicants to contact our franchisees.  Further, our franchisees have the right to conduct their business without constant interruption from perspective franchisees.

Step Three:  The Personal Meeting

If the information provided in your franchise application form meets our selection criteria we will arrange a personal meeting at which time you will be required to execute a Confidentiality/Non-Disclosure agreement prior to be provided with more in-depth information.  The purpose of this meeting is to:
  • Review your application.
  • Discuss the financial requirements.
  • Review potential locations.
  • Observe the centralized dispatch office in Calgary.
  • Meet our Home Office Team.

Step Four:  Offer to Purchase Agreement

Should we mutually decide to proceed, the next step is for you to:
  • Execute an offer to purchase and pay a deposit of $5,000.00 (five thousand dollars) which is fully refundable.
  • Receive a copy of the franchise agreement.
  • Receive our disclosure document (this is a requirement in Alberta and Ontario but is issued to all potential franchisees).

Step Five:  Review the Franchise Agreement

Once the offer to purchase has been executed and the deposit has been paid, you will have 15 (fifteen) days to:
  • Have the franchise agreement reviewed by a lawyer who is experienced in the field of franchising.
  • Execute the franchise agreement and pay the balance of the initial franchise fee (plus G.S.T. on the full amount of the initial franchise fee).
  • Pay the full amount of the training charges plus G.S.T.
  • Pay the full amount of the promo package plus G.S.T.

If during the fifteen day period you decide not to proceed with the franchise, or if we elect not to proceed with your application your entire deposit will be returned to you without delay.

*We thoroughly review the franchise agreement with you so that you have a clear understanding of what is involved before you have it reviewed by a lawyer.

Choosing a New Franchisee

In choosing franchise members, preference will be given to applicants who:
  • Appreciate and understand the benefits of working on a team.
  • Demonstrate good people skills.
  • Have a background in sales / marketing.
  • Are involved in their community.
  • Will be active in the franchise location.
  • Have the funds to invest as well as the financial ability to make ends meet the first year while drawing only a minimal salary.

Initial Investment

The initial investment that a franchisee will have to make can vary depending on a number of factors, including the size of the exclusive territory, population and alcohol consumption.  The financial requirements provided in the 'New Franchise Locations Available' page does not include G.S.T. which may be recoverable by the franchise member.
